Game 13 at Oak Grove Challenge

1-27-10

We did enough to win this game, but it's one of those you feel empty about. We were up as much as 18 in the 4th quarter and won 53-51. We played awfully well for 3 quarters and did some really good things. The pressure was intensified late and OG was trying to get themselves back in it, which they did. We did not handle the pressure they way you'd like and they took advantage. Bottom line = WIN. Aaron Winter had 16 to lead the scoring. We are 10-3 overall.

Role players

It is important, throughout the course of the season, to thank the guys that don't get to play as much as others. The guys that play for me know how much I care about them. The things they do for our program on and off the court mean a great deal to me. There are a few players that I want to make sure know how much they mean to our team. They don't get the playing time that they would like, but never let it visibily bother them. I think that is a great trait for any player to have. It shows that they are about the good of the team and selfishness does not exist.

Spencer Picard, sophomore. This is Spencer's second year in the high school program. He played for us last year as a freshman. Spencer is a high-character kid who loves to be around his teammates. His strength is on defense and he usually goes in to guard a great offensive player. He is a great asset to us and I am glad he is a part of things.

Marcus Huskey, sophomore. Marcus is a kid that grows on you as you get to know him. This is his second year with the high school program also. Marcus has sneaky length and has the ability to alter shots when he is guarding a good shooter, either inside or out. He has a good looking shot and follows through properly. Marcus lays it on the line everyday in practice and he's great to be around. He gets along with everyone and encourages his teammates all the time.

Jesse Snyder, junior. This is Jesse's third year with the high school program. He is a great kid who loves to play the game. He is a very physical player and will get after anyone, anytime. His work ethic is off the charts and I know he will be successful in everything that he does down the road. He is a very strong kid who knows how to use it. He brings the morale of the team up anytime he is around and is just strong, both mentally and physically.

These three guys do alot for our team and we would not be the same "team" without them.

Game 12 at Oak Grove Challenge

1-25-10

Tonight we began play in the Oak Grove JV Challenge and played Pleasant Hill. This is the 2nd time in a week that we faced PH and fortunately were able to have the same result. We never trailed on our way to a 53-48 win. PH shot the ball great and were in it until the end. We did not do a good enough job contesting shots and paid for it. We are now 9-3 on the year.

Game 11 at Excelsior Springs

1-22-10

We got after Excelsior pretty good on this night. We got a 24-8 lead and never let up. We were able to effect them with pressure and got to the goal effectively. We won the game 60-38 and improved to 8-3 overall. Tanner Griffin had 21 and Aaron Winter had 12. Everyone contributed to this win.

Game 10 versus Pleasant Hill

1-19-10

We played sluggish all night but were able to wear out Pleasant Hill tonight. They shoot the ball extremely well but we used our size and quickness to win the battle inside. We turned them over off our pressure and forced them to give us some uncontested lay-ups. We took control in the 3rd quarter but to their credit did not quit. The final score was 43-32 and our record is 7-3. Aaron Winter led us with 16 and Tanner Griffin had 13.

Game 9 at Harrisonville Tournament

1-14-10

The Championship game of the Harrisonville Tournament and we came out playing very well. We scored at will in the first half, but did not take advantage of some opportunities. We were up 32-26 at half but needed a bigger lead. We got outscored 16-5 in the 3rd quarter and lost the game 58-48. We will get to play them two more times to see if we have gotten better. We were disappointed with this loss because we felt like we should have won. Aaron Winter had 17 and Tanner Griffin had 12. We are now 6-3.

Game 8 at Harrisonville Tournament

1-13-10

Tonight we were in a battle with Warrensburg, a team we had beat the first game of the season. We got down early and were not able to produce points very easily. We pressed and got back in the game by halftime. We were up 30-28 at half. This was really a tight game throughout, and we pulled away midway through the 4th quarter. We had a 9-point lead late but Warrensburg hit some uncontested 3-point shots and got back in the game again. We ended up winning 60-56 and improved to 6-2. Aaron Winter had 17 and Derek Kelton had 17 to lead us in scoring.
